May 19, 2026 – Columbus, Indiana, author Kimberly S. Hoffman’s tenth book will center on helping children deal with death. Gramma’s Legacy: Helping Children Grieve the Loss of a Loved One, which should be published this summer, centers on a young girl named Sophie, whose grandmother has just passed away. Her grandfather explains that even though Gramma’s life story here had finished, her spirit would live on in the memories she made for those who loved her. Sophie was still sad, but she felt a little better knowing her gramma’s spirit still lived inside of her.
The story allows adults to tenderly navigate the grief children feel when a loved one passes away and give them a sense that good memories of the departed can be comforting later on.
The book is illustrated by award-winning artist and muralist Greg Potter.
