May 19, 2026 - Daniel Lee’s forthcoming book, Noble Son: Youth, Duty and Disease in a Civil War Regiment, is a deeply researched work of nonfiction that follows Private Willet Job Rathbun, who joined the 110th New York Regiment at the tender age of 17 and died of yellow fever at 19 in Key West, Florida.
The cover, designed by Kassi Hattabaugh of Colorado, has been approved for the book, which should be released sometime this summer. A photo of the young Rathbun in uniform is the centerpiece of the cover, with envelopes of letters home augmenting it. A Columbus, Indiana, native, Hattabaugh has designed several covers for PathBinder.
Lee, a central Indiana resident who has worked as a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, The Indianapolis Star, and the Indianapolis Business Journal, is also the author of The Belgian Hammer: Forging Young Americans into Professional Cyclists.
