August 6,2025 – PathBinder has set September publication dates for two nonfiction books, both with connections to Columbus, Indiana.

Amazing Sounds in a Midwestern Town: Columbus, Indiana: Small City with a Big Musical Heritage by Byron Cartwright of Alabama. The book, to be released September 24, focuses on Columbus, Indiana, where worlds of church, school, and community overlapped and interacted almost seamlessly for decades as a backdrop for musical creativity. Performers, educators, and philanthropists of a bygone era actively brought forth new ideas into the world of music there.

Cartwright holds degrees from the Cincinnati Bible Seminary, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He and his wife/soulmate/musician-mate, Katie, live in Alabama.

Meanwhile, Recollections of the Civil War: The life of a soldier in the Ohio 2nd Volunteer Cavalry - 1861-1865 will come out on September 25. The book was written more than 100 years ago by Civil War veteran William H.H. Polhamus. It was carefully researched and annotated by his great-grandson, Frederick E. Leickly of Columbus, Indiana.

In this volume, which also includes three poems by Polhamus, Leickly pays homage to a most unique writer in the style of the late 1800s who shares his courage, escapades, and dedication to his comrades and his country. It took Leickly quite some time to locate the manuscript he had heard about, finally finding it at The Ohio State University Library, Thompson Library Special Collections. It was typed on onion-skin paper with turquoise ink.

A member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Leickly painstakingly researched everything his ancestor wrote and adds his own commentary to explain to readers what could be verified and what could not.
